Subject: Regulation Amending the Regulation on Control of Industrial Air Pollution

Regulation on Control of Industrial Air Pollution (“Regulation”) published in the 29115 numbered Official Gazette on July 3, 2009 was revised with the Regulation Amending the Regulation on Control of Industrial Air Pollution published in the 31296 numbered Official Gazette dated  November 6, 2020. As follows,

  • The following provisional article has been added to the regulation:

 

Provisional clause 

 

PROVISIONAL ARTICLE 8 – (1) The provisions in the section titled “EE) TWENTY EIGHT GROUP FACILITIES: Geothermal Energy Production Facilities” are added to Annex-5 and are applied as of 30/6/2021. “

 

ARTICLE 2 – The following section has been added to ANNEX-5 of the same Regulation.

“EE) TWENTY-EIGHT GROUP FACILITIES: Geothermal Energy Production Facilities

(1) In geothermal power plants, H2S emission cannot be emitted more than the values given below. The limit value in Table 1.2.1 in Annex-1 is not applied in this regard.

More than 20 MWe up to 50 MWe 10 kg/hour
50 MWe and more 15 kg/hour

 

(2) Provisions regarding the chimney height, flue gas velocity and vertical exit condition in this Regulation are not required for geothermal power plants.

 

Special Emission Limits for High Pollutant Facilites are determined in Annex-5 of the Regulation. With the title of EE) Twenty-eigth Group Facilities, Geothermal Energy Production Facilities have been added to the Regulation.As a result, as of 30/06/2021, according to their Megawatt generation capacity the amount of H2S emissions that geothermal power plants can release has been limited. In addition, it has been stated that the chimney height, flue gas velocity and vertical exit conditions specified in the Regulation will not be applied in geothermal power plants.

  • The regulation on the amendment of the Regulation has entered into force on the date of its publication. (06.11.2020)
